Colorado Ski Areas near Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70

June 21: Golden, Colorado (just west of Denver).

We are in Clear Creek City Park N39° 45.197' W105° 13.193' in Golden, Colorado. The campground is located on the south side of 10th street at the end of the road. Clear Creek City Campground is one of the nicest (location wise) campgrounds you can stay in (our opinion). located on Clear Creek 3-blocks from downtown Golden. They have paved interior roads with small backin sites (mature trees are so wonderful); 50-amps, water and sewer, $28.91 per-night 303-278-1437. There is a 2-week max stay before you have to leave the park and they do not take reservations.

It looks different in the summer. In the winter this is a major ski area with hundreds of automobiles and snow skiers. There is no activity on the slopes this time of year.

Loveland Basin & ski area is 12-miles west of historic Georgetown at exit 216 on I-70. It is one of the best snow areas in North America with a summit elevation of 13,010' and base at 10,600'. Loveland boasts of an average snowfall each season in excess of 400 inches. Loveland also operates the highest quad lift in North America. It offers skiing terrain/slopes for all levels of skiers.

Loveland is often the first to open and one of the last to close each season.

From the Breckenridge & Frisco area we took a back road over to US-6.

US-6 provides a good road over Loveland Pass while servicing the popular ski resorts of Keystone and Arapahoe Basin.

This is what Keystone ski facility looks like during mid-June.

Not far away on US 6 we pass Arapahoe Basin ski area.

Then we continued east toward Loveland Pass, but first we have to get above the tree line.

We were loosing altitude fast with grades like this one leading into the Loveland Basin ski area (that is I-70) running past Loveland Basin.

All of the above ski areas are located at or very near the Continental Divide within a few short miles of Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70.
