Cuchara is a charming community situated at a bit over 8,400' making it a nice place to spend HOT summers and that is just what people do. This sign is in the Village of Cuchara.

Stonewall, Colorado a small community on the Highway of Legends was named for that "stone-wall" you see in the distance. That "stonewall" is geologically referred to as a dike. When molten rock from deep within the earth's core pushed this region up millions of years ago that molten rock flowed into cracks being created in the sedimentary layers of rock that were being pushed up forming what is now Spanish Peaks. A large number of these "radial-dikes" radiate out from Spanish Peaks in an amazing geological display. A large number of these dikes are visible along the Highway of Legends especially between La Veta and Cuchara.
