While this sign was located on Cuchara Pass it was at the turn off for the road over Cordova Pass that continued to Aguilar, Colorado located just off I-25 between Trinidad and Walsenburg. The Farley Overlook is only .5 miles down this road and it is where views from Cuchara Pass are actually possible. Cordova Pass at over 11,000' is another 6-miles of rough gravel road. At least we though it was bad. We made the journey to Cordova Pass on this road in our small Saturn tow car and thought it was simply horrible. However, when we arrived there were several campers there in heavy duty class C motorhomes. They were from Utah and New Mexico and thought the road was wonderful. My, my how opinions vary. The difference might have been the size of the vehicles and the chassis differences. Our small Saturn with small tires was beating us to death in the small washboard ruts. Anything over 10-mph was just intolerable. Their heavier vehicles with larger tires may have dampened the washboard that was beating us to death. It would have been nice to have continued on this road to Aguilar. That was our plan but all we could take was the 6-miles to Cordova Pass then we turned around and returned to Cuchara Pass and continued following the Highway of Legends down to Cuchara then La Veta, and finally back to our motorhome west of Walsenburg in Lanthrop State Park.
