Why Stonewall, Colorado is named StonewallThe dike or "wall" in Stonewall, Colorado on Highway of Legends
This picture features the entrance gate to a ranch or villa located next to the dike or "stone-wall" near the center of Stonewall, Colorado on the Highway of Legends. Do note the Spanish/Mexican influence. This area was settled by Spanish/Mexicans from the earliest of times. I am totally mesmerized by the awesomeness of this dike that radiates out from the Spanish Peaks. If you do not understand what a dike is and how it was created take time to click on one of the "dike" links to better understand how this and the other dikes radiating out from the Spanish Peaks came to be.

This part of the dike is on the left side of the Highway of Legends as we enter Stonewall. There is a similar exposure of this wall on the other side of the highway. The Highway of Legends slips through a narrow opening in this rock wall. The town of Stonewall rests against this "stone-wall" or dike that radiates out from Spanish Peaks.
