La Veta, Colorado part-1Rolling south on I-25 approaching Walsenburg, Colorado the turn to La Veta
When you are heading south on I-25 out of Denver this is the exit you take to La Veta (the Walsenburg exit or Exit-52). La Veta is about 18-miles west of Walsenburg on US-160.

The original settlers in this area were predominantly Spanish & Mexican and this is largely true today. There is certainly a huge Catholic influence plus as you can see the "Spanish/Mexican architecture and colors.
Unique novelty store in La Veta
We both loved this old store. The architecture was certainly unique, with old cedar columns and the extra large shaded area out front that protects the store from late afternoon sun. I suspect that during the winter this large sheltered area protects from snow as well. It was Sunday and after 8 PM or Joyce would have had me stop. Sometimes I get lucky. :-)
