Texas Hill Country Bluebonnets

Texas Hill Country Bluebonnets

April 13 - 17, 2007.

The motorhome is at Lady Bird Johnson City Park 3-miles south of Fredericksburg on SR-16; $20 FHU including cable with paved sites. We tend to like Lady Bird Johnson City Park when we are in Fredericksburg because the RV-sites are situated under the canopy of mature pecan trees but there are several more that are good as well. The Fredericksburg RV-Park on Highway street is another good park but it cost more and doesn't have mature trees that provide shade.

Bluebonets and April in the Hill Country of Texas are like cowboy boots, jeans & starched (long-sleeve) cotton shirt, they just go together and are to be expected. Bluebonets do better when the area gets rain in March which they did this year.

We put this collage of bluebonet pictures together so that people who have not visited the Texas Hill Country during April can see what the "bluebonnet-boom" is all about.

Don't get the idea that the entire Hill Country is blanketed in bluebonets, far from it. But if you visit the right areas you will be treated to vistas such as this.

This group of pictures was taken on Eckert Road. To take this drive go north from Fredericksburg on SR-16 aproximately 10-miles. At Eckert FM-1323 goes east to Willow City (one end of the famous Willow Loop). Meanwhile back on SR-16 go past FM-1323 and take Eckert Road to the west. It should only be a block or so north of the road to Willow City. The bluebonnets should be good for about 5 to 7-miles on Eckert Road.
