Oxbow Bend is a good pull out in Grand Teton National Park to pull into late afternoon to catch the reflection of Mt Moran sparking in the water. Ether

In this close-up of Mt Moran in Grand Teton National Park you can see the dark dike that looks like a large nail at the top.

Dikes are created by liquid magma being injected into cracks in the overlying crust of the earth.

Mount Moran's face is marked by this distinctive basalt intrusion known as the Black Dike.

The peculiar black dike looks like a vertical line made by a giant, felt-tipped pen.

In this case, the dike is about 150 feet in width, and diabase in composition.

Diabase dikes are created when vertical cracks developed and infilled with iron & magnesium-rich, quartz-poor, magma.

Here Mt Moran is framed by a log fence outside Jackson lake Lodge. Looking out over willow flats there are beautiful views of the Teton Range. Guest watch for Elk and other wildlife in the flats.
