Crab, Sunset, Sea Oats & Beach: St. Andrews State ParkOctober, 17th thru early November
This travellog covers the second part of our two week stay on Panama City Beach camping at St. Andrews State Park $26.16 for water & 30-amps with a central dump station. The sites feature paved interior roads with sand campsites. St. Andrews State Park Campground has LOCATION and "price". The campground is situated on Grand Lagoon with many sites on the water and all others with a view of the water. In my opinion it doesn't matter if you have one of the sites on the water or not you are so close to the water that it doesn't matter. If you can not find a great campground like St Andrews State Park you need to be in a 1/2 Price PPA Campground
Crab claw on beach St Andrews State Park
Crab claws like this one are part of the color and excitement when walking the beach at St. Andrews State Park. Each walk on the beach reveals the constant ebb and flow of life in the nearby estuary.
Sea oats and beach pier in St Andrews State Park
Joyce caught this sea oat glistening in the evening sun. That is the fishing pier protruding into the Gulf at St Andrews State Park.
Sea Oats on the beach at St Andrews State Park
Joyce juxtaposed this sea oat against a clear blue sky.
Beach scene St Andrews State Park
That is Mike walking along the beach in St. Andrews State Park. We are walking along the pass and the tree line you see in the distance is actually down town Panama City about 5-miles across St. Andrews Bay.
Note how we have the beach to ourselves. Folks, Florida's State Park system is truly a jewel. Do not miss visiting Florida's State Parks. St. Andrews isn't the only State Park that is this beautiful. Try them all, they each preserve a unique niche that would not be available to anyone if the State of Florida had not had the foresight to protect places like this.
Sunset from beach at St Andrews State Park
Another sunset picture taken from St. Andrews State Park with a flock of pelicans heading to their roost for the night.
Small trigger fish on the beach at St Andrews State Park
This is either a file fish or a small trigger fish. I think it is a file fish but the critter is only the size of a quarter so it could be a juvenile trigger fish. In any event Joyce captured this shot one morning as we walked along the beach. Surely some scavenging sea gull will spot this morsel in short order.
Ghost crab on beach at St Andrews State Park
Joyce took pictures of this large ghost crab that was extremely excited because I was standing between it and his burrow. Joyce was standing near me when she took this picture. You can see how this crab is in a defensive position making himself look as large and menacing as possible.
Ghost Crab on beach at St Andrews State Park
Joyce walked around behind the crab to get this picture. As you can see the crab was more interested in me than Joyce because I was making movements that would attract his attention.
Note how they are different colors when the photograph is taken from different angles. To give you an idea of the size of this ghost crab it was about 10" from side to side in that position. The body itself was the size of a tennis ball.
That is all there is.
