Beach, Dunes, Sea Oats & Crab St. Andrews State ParkThis travellog covers the first part of our two week stay on Panama City Beach at St. Andrews State Park $26.16 for water & 30-amps with a central dump station. The sites feature paved interior roads with sand campsites. St. Andrews State Park Campground has LOCATION and "price". The campground is situated on Grand Lagoon with many sites on the water and all others with a view of the water. In my opinion it doesn't matter if you have one of the sites on the water or not you are so close to the water that it doesn't matter.
Dunes & sea oats on beach at St Andrews State Park
Panama City Beach and St. Andrews State Park change dramatically from season to season. During the Fall there aren't as many visitors to the park. Cold fronts come through bringing dryer & cooler air. Winds come out of the north for several days in a row before another low brings humid air from the Gulf. The air is cleaner and crisper. Sea oats are in full display with beautiful heads of amber grain. And did I mention that the crowds of people were gone leaving the beach to those are staying in the campground.
This particular dune system is located in St. Andrews State Park. Joyce took this picture looking to the west. You can see at least one set of high-rise condominiums on Panama City Beach in the distance.
Crab claw on beach at St Andrews State Park
One never knows what you might see when walking the beach. In this picture Joyce captured a colorful crab claw.
Note the beach sand. It is composed of grains of quartz.
Dead crab on beach at St Andrews State Park
A dead crab is washed on the beach. It will not be long before one of the scavenging gulls find it and have a tasty lunch.
In this picture the clear to white grains of quartz beach sand are visible. It is these small grains of quartz that make the beaches along this portion of the Florida coast so beautiful.
Couple walking on beach in St Andrews State Park with Panama City Beach in background
This couple is enjoying a walk along the shore in St Andrews State Park, enjoying the sea gulls and azure water of the Gulf. In the distance you can see the string of high-rise condominiums that line Panama City Beach for 15 to 20 miles.
Driftwood on beach in St Andrews State Park
We enjoyed this old palm tree that was washed up on the beach a short walk (30-minutes) from the campground in St Andrews State Park. It is a long but beautiful walk down to the point where this old palm tree rests. To get to this point walk from the campground to the pier extending into Grand Lagoon. Once at the pier walk around the little marina and down to the shoreline. Once on the shoreline walk to the end of land at the point. When you are there you will be at the point where Grand Lagoon meets St. Andrews Bay and the pass that offers access to the Gulf of Mexico.
Classic beach scene
Joyce snapped this picture late one afternoon as we dined in Pineapple Willies a local hot spot.
Sunset along beach in St Andrews State Park
Joyce doesn't let many sunsets get by without getting a few pictures. I thought I would share this one with you.
Beautiful beach scene in St Andrews State Park
It is extremely calm in the gulf and the water is so beautiful.
Snow white dunes covered with sea oats along beach in St Andrews State Park
This is part of the beautiful, snow white, dune system in the park. The sugar white sand is comprised of quartz crystals.
That is all there is for this edition of adventures on the beach at St Andrews State Park which included beach walks, sunsets, sand dunes, sea oats and crabs on the beach.
