There is still a lot of snow on the ground in the southern Absaroka Mountains in late June.

Togwotee Pass receives heavy winter snowfall and is a top destination for snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Snowfall at the pass often exceeds 25 feet and in some years over 50 feet. Can you imagine over 50-feet of snow in a single winter. US-26 over Togwotee Pass can be shut down for days at a time during blizzards.

The Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail passes through this area.

We are having trouble processing how much snow is still on the ground here in the southern Absaroka Mountains as we traverse Togwotee Pass on US-26 between Dubois and Moran Junction in Grand Teton National Park.

We are totally amazed at the snow we are seeing as we climb to Togwotee Pass in the Absaroka Mountains west of Dubois, Wyoming.

We are actually crossing the Continental Divide in the in the Absaroka Mountains not the Wind River Range.

The Wind River Range officially stops a few miles south of US-26 and the Absaroka Mountains begin but for most of us this is still the Wind River Range.

From US-26 between Dubois and Moran Junction, as a general rule, the Wind River Range can be seen to the south while the mountains stretching to the north are the Absaroka Mountains. However, keep in mind that the "official" dividing line between the Wind River Range and Absaroka Mountains is Union Pass and Union Pass is located on the Continental Divide a bit south of US-26.

This is looking south from US-26 on Togwotee Pass so those mountains in the distance would be in the Wind River Range. We are currently in the Absaroka Mountains as we cross Togwotee Pass heading into Moran Junction in Grand Teton National Park.

There is still a lot of snowpack in the upper elevations of the Absaroka Mountains in this area.
