US-26 West of Dubois, WyomingUS-26 west of Dubois, Wyoming
The Absaroka Mountain Range comes into view west of Dubois, Wyoming when traveling on US-26. We are headed across Togwotee Pass and down to Moran Junction in Grand Teton National Park on our way to our campsite at Gros Ventre Campground in Grand Teton National Park about one mile from the small town of Kelly. As you can see the Absaroka Mountains are still blanketed in snow especially in the higher elevations. From here I can tell by the horizontal lines in the snow that these mountains are uplifted sedimentary rock. West of Dubois, Wyoming on US-26
The Absaroka Mountain Range is visible north of US-26 as we leave Dubois, Wyoming and make our way to Togwotee Pass.
Wind River as we get close to it's source high in the Wind River Range
We are following the Wind River as we leave Dubois heading west on US-26. We will follow the Wind River for a good way before it turns south into the Wind River Range and heads for Union Pass. We will continue on to Togwotee Pass and make our way into Grand Teton National Park at Moran Junction. Nearing the snowline on US-26 west of Dubois, Wyoming
As we near the snowline US-26 has taken us into the Absaroka Mountain Range and the Wind River has turned south into the Wind River Range. We are now making our way up to Togwotee Pass in the Absaroka Mountains of eastern Wyoming. From Togwotee Pass we will drop down off the continental divide into Moran Junction and Grand Teton National Park.
Mesa in the Absaroka Mountain Range east of Togwotee Pass on US-26
As we continue making our way west on US-26 from Dubois we encounter this beautiful snow covered mesa in the Absaroka Mountain Range. We still have a lot of climbing to do to get over Togwotee Pass.
