Key West Express arriving in Key West around noon

Key West Express arriving in Key West around noon

Joyce took this picture of the Key West Express arriving in Key West where it will dock at the Ferry Terminal in Key West Bight Marina.

The Key West Express ferries passengers between Ft Myers, Florida and Key West. It arrives daily around noon then heads back to Ft Myers around 6pm. Most passengers disembark in Key West and make their way to hotel's, B&B's or condominiums where they will stay for a few days to several weeks. When it is time to return to Ft Myers they drop by the Ferry Terminal in Key West Bight Marina and ride the 6pm boat back to Ft Myers.

When you visit Key West take Harbor Walk around Key West Bight Marina and inspect the fleet of "fast-catamaran ferries" that operate out of the Ferry Terminal.

Joyce took this picture of the small harbor at the end of Duval Street with Sunset Pier in the background.

That finger pier, with all the brightly colored umbrellas, is Sunset Pier around noon. In late afternoon, in preparation for the sunset ritual, seats will be scarce as hens teeth.

Sail on one of Fury's fleet of boats as it passes Sunset Pier

This is one of the fleet of boats that leave Key West Bight Marina every evening with a load of passengers heading out to participate in the time honored ritual of saying good-by to the sun. Many of these boats will slowly sail past Sunset Pier and Mallory Square so that passengers on the boat can wave to those of us not fortunate enough be on a boat.

If you are interested in taking one of the myriad sunset cruises the best thing to do is locate Key West Bight Marina (that is where the vast majority of sunset cruise boats dock), then stroll Harbor Walk (the boardwalk) that wends its way around Key West Bight Marina. You can size up all the different options. Some have live music, some offer exotic wines and food, others specialize in a "sailing" experience. There is something to fit everyone's fancy. Besides it is fun to stroll Harbor Walk and check out all the sea food restaurants that line Key West Bight Marina. If you are walking Harbor Walk during the day be sure to look in the water for the huge tarpon that hang out in the marina. Some of these tarpon are in the 150 to 200 pound range.

We arrived at Sunset Pier early enough to secure a good seat on this day.

Check out this picture of Sunset Pier compared to the above picture. Sunset Pier begins to fill-up about an hour before sunset so it is best to get there early. If you arrive later you can still see the sunset you will just do it standing up. VBG

Sunset Pier is part of the Ocean Key Resort Complex located at the foot of Duval Street in Key West. If you walk south from Sunset Pier the boardwalk will lead to Mallory Square where large crowds also watch the sunset each evening.

No Joyce didn't take this picture, I did. VBG

This is the back drop for the stage musicians use to entertain guests on Sunset Pier. There is an "opening" in the back of the stage and that is what I was shooting this picture through.

This is certainly a "picture-perfect" sunset that we are experiencing from Sunset Pier in Key West.

Keep in mind that this stunning sunset is just topping on the cake. While sitting at a table on Sunset Pier we have experienced great food, great drinks, great live music, and wonderful dancing. What else can you and the love of your live ask for?
