Nashville Honky Tonks
May 15 through 18, 2008
We are staying at Poole Knobs COE Campground near Smyrna, TN.: $9 a night with elect & water (we have the National Park systems 1/2 price geezer pass) so if you aren't 62 years old or disabled yet it will cost you $18. Smyrna and Poole Knobs COE Campground, is about 20-miles SE of downtown Nashville. We are on site # 41 and it is a beautiful site but there are many wonderful sites. If you can not find a COE campground like Poole Knobs in Smyrna you need to look for a 1/2 Price PPA Campground.
Broadway Street Nashville, Tennessee is where you will find many of the honky tonksFriday was our day & night to go honky tonkin on Broadway Street in Nashville. For those of you not familiar with Broadway in Nashville between 4th & 5th streets it is wall to wall honky tonks on both sides of the street. All of these venues are featuring up and coming country music musicians. There is no bad music it is all good, better & best. Locating parking in Nashville is fairly easy if you are willing to come off your billfold which you have to do. We parked in the large parking garage on the NW corner of 3rd and Commerce Streets which puts us within a 2-block walk of our primary destinations. We arrived in the parking garage around 2PM and headed out on our adventure.
Wild Horse Saloon
The Wild Horse Saloon was our first stop but we only looked inside and took some pictures. They had a band that was setting up for the nights entertainment but the name did not sound like anything we were interested in.
Mike and pretty horse at the "Wild Horse Saloon"
While this "Wild Horse" looks interesting I think it best we move on. VBG
The Stage on Broadway A Premier Nashville Honky Tonk
From the Wild Horse we headed up Broadway to honky tonk row. It did not take long for us to settled into "The Stage on Broadway" which was featuring a good band - The Exit 69 Band - that was playing our kind of music.
This is Tim Baumgartner a great lead guitar & vocals musician that plays with a variety of groups including Melissa Paige. Today we found him playing lead guitar with Melissa at The Stage on Broadway. Get more info on Tim and where he will be playing at: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=155419334
JD Simo performing in Robert's honky tonk on Broadway
One of the best shows on Broadway can be found in Robert's honky tonk where the Don Kelly Band performs nightly.
J. D. is putting his whole body and soul into the sounds coming out of that guitar. Check JD Simo out here: http://www.myspace.com/jdsimomusic
Tootsies bar keep with nice church key aka "tush key"
Tootsies entertainment is not confined to the musicians of the band. Customers and the bar keeps are an extension of the entertainment.
I just love where this barkeep in Tootsies stored her church key between opening customers long necks. Take a look and contemplate where that church key is. While I understand some beers are good with a little salt sprinkled on the rim and others need a slice of lime. At tootsie's you might say you get a little "tush" to go with your long neck. VBG
This was the entertainment that substituted for a less than stellar band. Ya reckon her church key might be better described as a "tush key"?
Second Fiddle Honky Tonk on Broadway in Nashville
This was a good band performing in the Second Fiddle, another honky tonk located on Broadway.
Tootsies honky tonk on Broadway
As we prepared to head back to the motorhome I stepped across Broadway and took this picture of Tootsies Honky Tonk on Broadway.
Legends Corner is to the left in this picture and the Second Fiddle is to the right. All are good honky tonks with good music.
Second Fiddle honky tonk on Broadway
Today was as good as it gets. A day touring Nashville Honky Tonks with my best friend. What else could I ask for?
The Second Fiddle in tucked in between Robert's and Tootsies on Broadway Street.
Joyce posing in front of Legends Corner honky tonk on Broadway
Saturday was a new day. After sleeping late we made our way back to Broadway Street and the task of finding the best band playing in one of those honky tonks. Legends Corner is one of the famous honky tonks. I think Joyce is telling me that we are about to see what they have to offer.
Second Fiddle honky tonk on Broadway
We have enjoyed several good bands in the Second Fiddle another of Nashville's famous honky tonks.
Saturday turned out to be another "home run", what could be better than a day & night "honky tonkin" with your best friend? Thankfully, for me, my best friend also happens to be da boss. VBG
That pretty much summs up this honky tonkin experience on Braodway in Nashville. Click here for more of our Tennessee Travel Adventures
