Roberts Honky Tonk Nashville

We are staying at Poole Knobs COE Campground near Smyrna, TN.: $9 a night with elect & water (we have the National Park systems 1/2 price geezer pass) so if you aren't 62 years old or disabled yet it will cost you $18. Smyrna and Poole Knobs COE Campground, is about 20-miles SE of downtown Nashville. We are on site # 41 and it is a beautiful site but there are many wonderful sites. If you can not find a COE campground like Poole Knobs in Smyrna you need to look for a 1/2 Price PPA Campground.
Roberts Honky Tonk on Broadway in Nashville
This is the Don Kelley Band that performs in Robert's another of the honky tonks on Broadway. This was a group of really talented musicians. The base player, Dave Roe,(on the right) spent 10-years touring with Johnny Cash and could perform all of Johnny's songs. The drummer, like the base player toured with some big name bands as well. The 23-year old lead guitar player will be playing with a top group soon. He was really talented. They all said this young fellow, J. D. Simo, would probably not go on tour but rather end up as a studio musician -- one of the musicians that specializes in playing in the recording studio -- the best of the best. Later we found out that J. D. was already doing studio work.

During the next several weeks we visited Robert's numerous times just to watch J. D. Simo that 23-year-old guitar mistro. This fellow plays a lead guitar like Jimi Hendrix and some of the other greats.

In addition to being a good base player Dave Roe has lead singer vocal quality. Here he is performing "Pretty Woman". Totally amazing. This guy nailed Pretty Woman. He is the toured with Johnny Cash's road band for 10-years.

Robert's Honky Tonk has also been host to several good groups. This is the honky tonk where J. D. Simo plays his hot guitar in the Don Kelly Band.
Saturday turned out to be another "home run", what could be better than a day & night "honky tonkin" with your best friend? Thankfully, for me, my best friend also happens to be da boss. VBG
