Camping, cast netting mullet St Andrews State Park
October, 17th into November
This travellog covers the second part of our two week stay on Panama City Beach camping at St. Andrews State Park $26.16 for water & 30-amps with a central dump station. The sites feature paved interior roads with sand campsites. St. Andrews State Park Campground has LOCATION and "price". The campground is situated on Grand Lagoon with many sites on the water and all others with a view of the water. In my opinion it doesn't matter if you have one of the sites on the water or not you are so close to the water that it doesn't matter. If you can not stay in a great campground like St Andrews State Park you should be looking for a 1/2 Price PPA Campground.
Deer in the campground at St Andrews State Park
St. Andrews State Park is an oasis for animals that have long since been eliminated from the commercial beaches. These deer and a host of others reside in the park and while not tame they do not mind people as long as the people do not act aggressive. These deer are foraging next to a campsite which is fairly common in the park.
Fall wildflowers near campground in St Andrews State Park
Fall brings out the yellow and purple flowers. These wildflowers signal that Fall is in the air.

Great egret wading near the campground in St Andrews State Park
This is one of the campground's resident great egrets. If you have a waterfront campsite in St. Andrews State Park this will be one of your guests.
Pelicans waiting for free lunch at the cleaning table near the campground in St Andrews State Park
These pelicans patrol the fish cleaning table at the fishing dock located near the campground at the boat ramp / fishing pier at St Andrews State Park. They have found it easier to eat scraps from the cleaning table at St. Andrews State Park than expending energy diving for fish.
Basket of castnetted mullet caught on the pier near the campground in St Andrews State Park
This is a basket of mullet caught off the fishing pier near the campground in St. Andrews State Park. Mullet aren't considered good eating in some places but along the Florida Panhandle they are a delicacy. The difference location makes is the sandy bottom in the Panhandle vs. mud bottom in other areas. Mullet are vegetarian and will take on the taste of what they eat. Here in the Panhandle they are tasty. In other places they can have a muddy taste. These folks are going to have a fish fry.
Castnetted mullet on pier near the campground at St Andrews State Park
Mullet are caught in cast nets thrown from the dock at St. Andrews State Park near the campground. This mess of mullet were caught with one cast. In fact the pier was covered with mullet. Three men with nets threw on the same passing school of mullet. When the three nets were retrieved there were around 100 mullet.
Wildflowers near campground at St Andrews State Park
This picture captured the interesting pattern present in old fronds on a palm tree with a yellow flower juxtaposed against that thatched pattern. It was also interesting how that flower somehow grew in that awkward position.
Deer near the campground in St Andrews State Park
During our morning walk in St Andrews State Park one day deer were out in force. At the same time bike riders preparing for an Iron Man competition were flying through the park. We overheard worried conversations of the bikers. They were worried about "being taken out of the Iron Man competition because of a collision with one of the deer in the park". They weren't joking. There were so many deer on and near the road that an accident was certainly possible. These were just two of the deer and you can see the bicycle coming around the corner.
That is all there is.
