Christmas Tree Island Key WestFleet of liveaboard boots moored around Christmas Tree Island
This is Wisteria Island, locally known as Christmas Tree Island that lies about 1/2 mile north of Old Town Key West. The moniker "Christmas Tree Island" comes from the Australian pines growing on the island. As you can see a good number of liveaboard boats are moored near the island and use dinghies to get into Key West. As you might suspect, these folks dock their dinghies at the dinghy dock along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina when visiting Key West. Do not be fooled by this picture there are hundreds of these liveaboard boats moored around this this island and hundreds more moored in any sheltered cove in the vicinity of Key West, and many of them use the dinghy dock along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina. Some of the individuals on these liveaboard boats are vagabonds. Others are normal people who are using these liveaboard boats as affordable housing while working normal jobs in Key West.
