2011 Signs Part Two
B.O.'s 5-Star Fish Wagon in Key West
I love "tongue in cheek signs" and this sign was the epitome of a "tongue in cheek sign". B.O.'s Fish Wagon is a popular dining spot in Key West but 5-star it ain't. Now that we have the rating sign explained.....it is a spoof if ever there was a spoof, B.O.'s Fish Wagon is a good place to stop for sea food when visiting Key West but it is a "DIVE". It is a locals favorite for fresh sea food. It is located on Caroline Street across from The Red Doors Dress Shop.
Coconuts 25-cents
There is a story behind this sign and this table. You have to understand that we are in the Florida Keys. Everyone, in the Florida Keys has multiple coconut palms in their yard, every public building in the Keys is decorated with coconut palms. In short coconut palms are everywhere and the falling coconuts are actually a disposal problem. I know you find that hard to believe but that is the way it is in the Keys. This particular sign and table is located on No Name Key as small island accessed from Big Pine Key. There are only a few homes on No Name Key and no electricity runs to the island. Each house provides their own power via solar power, generator, or wind generator. They also do not have typical services like garbage and trash pick-up. Tourist love to visit No Name Key to view the tiny Key Deer that are so abundant on No Name Key. Of course when driving by and seeing this table with the sign they can not resist getting a souvenir. Each day/week the owner of this property cleans up the fallen coconuts from his yard and puts them on his "trash pile" and the tourist stop by and haul off his trash while depositing 25-cents into his "honor-bucket". You do have to love this sign and the ingenuity on display.
End of the Road sign and sea horse mail box
Residents of the Keys are big on cute signs and this "End of the Road" sign is evidence. I also liked the unique sea horse mail box.
SOMEWHERE sign on one of the residences on No Name Key
Residents in the Florida Keys are big on cute signs. Some of the huge palatial estates have sophisticated sounding names. This place on No Name Key is "spoofing" those palatial estates with fancy names. As you can see he has named his place "SOMEWHERE".
NO WHERE is the name on a residence further down on the same street as SOMEWHERE
NO WHERE was located on the same street as SOMEWHERE. Keep in mind that we are on No Name Key near Big Pine Key in the Florida Keys. No Name Key does not have electricity. The houses are nice enough, but it is evident that they are not encumbered with ZONING laws. I did not say trashy..... it is just that you can tell there are no "neighborhood enforcement nannies" working the neighborhood.
