Cordova Pass over Spanish Peaks in south central Colorado part-1

Cattle grazing on private property off the gravel road to Cordova Pass

There was a large private ranch called the Cuchara Pass Ranch that the road to Cordova Pass passed through. Free range cattle were common along the road in the early going.

We were hoping to get some good views of the Spanish Peaks as we traveled to Cordova Pass but it was NOT to be. The thick conifer forest obscured our view of everything but the forest. On several occasions, and this being one, a quick view of the Spanish Peaks would present themselves. We cherished this peak because they were few and far between.

This is one of the fleeting views of Spanish Peaks visible through the thick evergreen forest that blocked our view of everything for 95% of our 6-mile journey on this extremely rough gravel road (not well maintained) to Cordova Pass. Note that the Spanish Peaks are comprised of layer upon layer of sedimentary rock.

This is a small opening in the conifer forest enabling us to view the Cuchara Valley stretching out in the distance.

A small window in the thick evergreen forest enables us to see what else is out there.
