Grand Teton National ParkGrand Teton
Grand Teton Mountain is the center piece of Grand Teton National Park. Joyce took this picture in late June of 2011 and as you can see there is still plenty of snow on the mountain.

I think we were somewhere around Jenny Lake when Joyce took this picture. Scenic Grand Teton National Park

Private residences on a bluff facing Grand Teton
These private homes are on top of an ancient pile of glacial moraine left by a receding glacier millions of years ago. They face Grand Teton Mountain. Residents access their private homes from Antelope Flats Road just north of Jackson Hole Airport. The Mountains in the background are in the Gros Ventre Mountain Range to the east of Grand Teton National Park.
Private Residence in Grand Teton National Park
There are a handful of private residences on the bluff that overlooks the sharp upslope foothills in the shadow of the Grand Teton. Lucky them! They are the last remaining private properties surrounded by Grand Teton National Park.
I overheard a ranger explaining that the few private homes/properties remaining in Grand Teton National Park have lifetime leases on the properties. So long as the properties stay in the family they remain private but once the family decides to sell the Federal Government has first right of refusal on the property. I do not know this for a fact and I certainly do not know what houses/ranches this applies to because there are a good number of private ranches and homes in Grand Teton National Park. The mountains in the background are part of the Gros Ventre Mountain Range east of Jackson, Wyoming. The Gros Ventre landslide
Although the Gros Ventre landslide scar is not actually in Grand Teton National Park is is really close and the only to access the Gros Ventre landslide is from Grand Teton National Park. It is located about 7-miles east of the Jackson Hole Airport. The Gros Ventre landslide scar can be easily seen from US-26 when you are passing through Grand Teton National Park. It is more easily spotted when traveling south on US-26. If you want to locate the Gros Ventre landslide locate the small town of Kelly about a mile east of the Gros Ventre Campground in Grand Teton National Park. Follow the Gros Ventre River Road east of Kelly for about 7-miles. When you arrive at the Gros Ventre landslide you will see a pullout and a large kiosk that explains what happened back in 1925. If you are really interested in the Gros Ventre landslide follow this link.
