Crazy Woman Canyon part-3Entering Crazy Woman Canyon from US-16 west of Buffalo, Wyoming
Joyce took this picture shortly after we turned off of US-16 west of Buffalo, Wyoming on to Crazy Woman Road that would take us east through Crazy Woman Canyon then on to I-90. We are on the eastern side of the Big Horn Mountains at this point. However, Crazy Woman Road is about to take us into an awesome scenic canyon known as Crazy Woman Canyon.

This picture was taken a bit further east on Crazy Woman Road just before we enter Crazy Woman Canyon. You can get an idea of Crazy Woman Canyon by looking at the steep sides of that cliff straight ahead of us. Crazy Woman Canyon becoming more defined as we cross one-lane bridge
We are about to cross this one lane bridge across Crazy Woman Creek. You can see the "cut" we are going to travel through in the middle of this picture. Crazy Woman Canyon is taking shape.

Crazy Woman Canyon is definitely shaping up in this picture. Looking ahead on Crazy Woman Road you can see how narrow the road is becoming as it squeezes between the cliff walls on each side of Crazy Woman Creek.
Crazy Woman Creek flowing in Crazy Woman Canyon along Crazy Woman Road west of Buffalo, WY
As you can see Crazy Woman Creek is NOT a raging river. However, it does have enough power to carve Crazy Woman Canyon. In this picture Crazy Woman Creek is flowing between two huge boulders that have crashed into the canyon from the steep walls on either side.

In this picture we have come through Crazy Woman Canyon on Crazy Woman Road that is getting wider as the canyon walls are getting smaller. In a moment we are going to emerge from Crazy Woman Canyon and the plains east of the Big Horn Mountains are going to be laid out before us.
Emerging from Crazy Woman Canyon as we head east on Crazy Woman Road west of Buffalo, Wyoming
Joyce pointed the camera to the north to take this picture of the eastern edge of the Big Horn foothills. We were headed east on Crazy Woman Road so I had to stop the Saturn and let Joyce get out to take this picture which was on my side of the car. If you are like me you are wondering why everything is called "Crazy Woman". I did some research and have written about that name in a travel log about Buffalo, Wyoming.
