Sunset Sail on the Adirondack III Key West

Sailing Schooner Adirondack III passing by Sunset Pier in Key West

Sailing Schooner Adirondack III passing by Sunset Pier at Ocean Key Resort in Key West during a sunset cruise

Joyce took this picture of the sailing schooner Adirondack III as it slowly sailed past our table on Sunset Pier at the Ocean Key Resort in Key West. Not only are we enjoying the parade of boats passing by we are also enjoying the sounds of Robert & Fritz who perform old 50's and 60's songs.

For those of you who are familiar with Key West that is Sunset Key you see over the stern of the Adirondack III and Wisteria Island you see over the bow of the Adirondack III.

There are many boats that offer private charters in Key West. One of them, the Adirondack III schooner, is an 80-foot wooden pilot schooner with almost 2,000 square feet of sails. Built in the style of 1890's pilot schooners, the Adirondack III harks back to the romantic era of sailors and explorers, many of which made stops in Key West.

Joyce took this picture capturing the America 2 and the Adirondack III as they sailed past Sunset Pier. That is Sunset Key you see in the distance.

The Adirondack III with the yellow sails makes a beautiful sight as it passes the setting sun. The sails of the Adirondack III are blocking the setting sun while the sun is really putting color into the Adirondack's sails.

Heading to sea aboard an 80-foot wooden pilot schooner on a sunset sail will stand out in the things you remember about your Key West visit.

The Adirondack III is one of the schooners in Key West offering a truly memorable sunset cruise.

A schooner is a distinctive type of sail boat with at least two masts that were in use first in the 16th and 17th century by Dutch sailors and then, in a more modernized style, in the 18th century by explorers to North America.

Joyce captured the Adirondack III as it sailed off Sunset Pier early one evening in January 2012. The rest of the country was shivering in cold while we were enjoying blue skies and watching boats like the Adirondack III sail past our spot on Sunset Pier where we were listening to Robert and Fritz perform 50's and 60's music.
