Stock Island Gulf Shrimp Boats & Stone Crab PotsJanuary 19th through 21st, 2009 This travellog covers the first part of our stay in Key West. We are dry camping on the Navy Base at Trumbo Point in Key West. I am a retired DOD civilian and the Navy allows retired DOD civilians to camp in the Navy facilities as long as there is space available. We are paying $12 a night to dry camp on a grass field along with over 600 other RV's. All I can say is: It is wonderful. Campground on Sigsby Naval Air Station Key West, Florida
We took this picture for a variety of reasons. First this small flock of white ibis was feeding at the ball field on Sigsby Navy Base. In the background you can see some RV's in the full-hookup campground on Sigsby. We are not staying on Sigsby. We are staying in the Trumbo Point Campground on another base that is much closer to downtown. Bougainvillea blooming on Stock Island at Key West, Florida

Century Plant Bloom on Stock Island behind Hogfish Grill
This is a small century plant. The century plants I am familiar with send flower spikes 20 or more feet in the air. This one was only about 15' at the most.
