Geology exposed in Wind River cuts south of Dubois, Wyoming

The cut shown in this picture was formed by Dinwoody Creek not the Wind River. It is located a few short miles south of Dubois, Wyoming on US-26.

That is the Wind River Range in the background. There is still a lot of snow covering the ground above 8,000-feet. The Wind River which has it's headwaters near Togowotee Pass on US-26 between Dubois and Moran Junction along the Continental Divide is at or above flood stage now. We have some picture of the Wind River at flood stage in Travellog 2011-115. We are going to be traveling over those snow capped mountains shortly and cover that in another travellog of the Wind River Range and Togowotee Pass on US-26.

These brick red sedimentary rocks really remind me of the sedimentary rock exposed in Red Canyon south of Lander, Wyoming.

That is the Wind River Range you see in the background. There is still a lot of snowpack in the higher elevations along the Continental Divide in late June. The Wind River is at or above flood stage along this portion of the river south of Dubois.

The cut shown in this picture was actually formed by Dinwoody Creek not the Wind River.

We are going to be crossing the Continental Divide high in those snow capped mountains of the Wind River Range shortly. Be on the lookout for our 2011 travel log where we cross over the Continental Divide in the Wind River Range at Togowotee Pass.

The red sedimentary rock exposed here looks like sediments from the Chugwater formation that are exposed in other areas along the front range of the Wind River Range. These brick red sedimentary rocks really remind me of the sedimentary rock exposed in Red Canyon south of Lander, Wyoming.
