Nothing could be more striking than this beautiful American Flag flying on the stern of the Schooner Western Union.

The Schooner Western Union docks in Key West Bight Marina. You can locate it easily by strolling along Harbor Walk.

 

 

 

Walk you will see the Schooner Western Union. It is docked right next to the Schooner Wharf Bar.

The cargo hold on the Schooner Western Union was originally designed to hold 20 miles of cable and 80 tons of cargo, the Western Union has been modified to 20 bunks and a refrigeration system.

Joyce snapped this picture of the Schooner Western Union one morning as it was pulling into the dock at Key West Bight Marina. It had been out in the open seas under coast guard inspection and was returning to port.

Joyce can not take credit for this beautiful photograph of the Schooner Western Union because we didn't see it under full sail this year in Key West. It was in dry dock the winter of 2010 undergoing major restoration and the winter of 2011 it was under full Coast Guard inspection. We were anxious to go sailing on the magnificent schooner, but it didn't happen this winter.

Here are some tourist enjoying a sunset sail on the Schooner Western Union. I am sure it doesn't get any better and Joyce and I are looking forward to perhaps taking the sunset sail on the Schooner Western Union in 2012. Remember you can see the Schooner Western Union along Harbor Walk in Key West Bight Marina. It was docked there during January and February when we were in Key West the winter of 2011.

The Schooner Western Union was placed on The National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
