Palmer Canyon Road & Muleshoe Ranch

July 16 & 17, 2009

Palmer Canyon Road & Muleshoe Ranch; Wheatland, Wyoming

Wheatland, Wyoming is a small farming and ranching community made possible by irrigation.

We are staying in the FREE city campground in Wheatland. It has electricity 30 & 50 amp. Water & dump station at a central location. The campground is located at the south end of 8th street. Once in town you will be on 9th street when you get to the red light turn east and go to 8th street then turn south and proceed to the city campground about 6 blocks. You will spot the park, the campground is on the south side in a row of large cottonwood trees.

After dropping our motorhome at the Wheatland city park we jumped in the Saturn and traveled west out of Wheatland on Palmer Canyon Road. Fields upon fields of alfalfa were in evidence as was the hay harvested from these fields. It is all made possible by irrigation.

These farmers are certainly making a lot of hay. This may have been "wheatland" at one time but it is "hay-land" today.

The Mule Shoe Ranch had a flock of free roaming peacocks that seemed to be guarding the ranch.

As we drive further west on Palmer Canyon Road we get closer and closer to the Laramie Range & Medicine Bow National Forest. But before we get there we have to cross a great expanse of open range land.

Open range in this area stretches for miles and miles. We can not even see a cow at this point. They are there but probably down in some ravine or other depression.

This is tumbleweed. We have not seen much tumble weed this trip but along this stretch of highway (Palmer Canyon Road) we did see some when there was a fence to catch them.

That is all there is.

Until next time remember how good life is.

We enjoyed our drive out Palmer Canyon Road through Muleshoe Ranch today and will do it again on another visit.

We have enjoyed our stay in Wheatland and will return. It is a nice place to visit.
