Marine Life of St. Joe Bay
August 10th thru 22nd This is a travellog that covers a 3-day adventure where we stayed in the campground at Presnell's Fish Camp on St. Joe Bay near Port St. Joe. Our son's family joined us for the three days on St. Joe Bay at Presnell's Fish Camp and Marina. Presnell's Fish Camp on St. Joe Bay has "rustic" sand sites, 30-amps and water with central sewer and the most beautiful sunsets anywhere for $33.30. This was during scallop season so I suspect the price would be much cheaper during other times of the year. If you can't find a campground like Presnell's you need to be in a 1/2 Price PPA Campground.
Sea creatures from St Joe Bay
Bennett, our 3-year old grandson, is inspecting sea creatures his father is bringing to the boat.
Bennett & St Joe Bay sealife
Oh, the wonder in a young boy's mind.
Stephen & large St Joe Bay lightening whelk
Stephen, our 6-year old grandson, is proud to be holding this large live lightning whelk which he quickly returned to St Joe Bay.
Jeff & St Joe Bay lightning whelk
Isn't St Joe Bay beautiful in this picture!
Jeff, our son, with a nice lightning whelk. We found lots of these whelks and only kept them out of the water long enough for pictures. The children were excited when we jumped over to get these beautiful sea creatures.
St Joe Bay Starfish
The children were infatuated with the different star fish that we found in St Joe Bay.
Stephen & sponge from St Joe Bay
Stephen with a sponge. This particular sponge was not attached to the bottom or he would not have been holding it. There is a wide variety of sponges in St Joe Bay that are fun to look at but we just look at them and admire their beauty, then return them to the water.
St Joe Bay sand dollars
These are live sand dollars. Note that they are brown and covered with small hairs. The white ones you find on the beach have lost all the "hairs" and have been bleached by the sun and salt water. We returned these to St Joe Bay after the pictures.
Stephen & Jeff with St Joe Bay Starfish
Jeff and Stephen, our 6-year old grandson with a starfish he found on the bottom of St Joe Bay.
St Joe Bay puffer fish was no match for Stephen
Stephen and Jeff ran this puffer fish down and captured it with a small hand held net in St Joe Bay.
St Joe Bay scallops
These are scallops. We got a mess of scallops for dinner one night. Most people visiting St. Joe Bay this time of year are searching for scallops. We were introducing our grandsons to all the sea life in St.Joe Bay and collecting scallops on the side.
Scallop season varies each year, but typically it starts in July and ends in September. Be sure and check, sometimes the scallop season is closed all year.
We did fry up a mess of these scallops and fish one night at the campground at Presnell's Fish Camp.
