Cape San BlasAugust 20 thru 22nd
This travellog covers some of the 3-day adventure we enjoyed with our son's family at Presnell's Fish Camp on St. Joe Bay near Port St. Joe, Florida. Campground info: Presnell's fish camp on St. Joseph Bay "rustic" sand sites, 30-amps and water with central sewer and the most beautiful sunsets anywhere for $33.30. This was during scallop season so I suspect the price would be much cheaper during other times of the year.
When we are not at a campground like Presnell's we are looking for 1/2 price camping opportunities at PPA Campgrounds.
Papa Joe's Seafood Restaurant in Apalachicola
I liked this display of colorful shells that a local artist had on display in Papa Joe's Seafood Restaurant in Apalachicola.
We took this picture one afternoon when we took a break, from our snorkeling, to visit the old cotton shipping port of Apalachicola. While there we had a late lunch at Papa Joe's.
Jeff & Kathryn on Cape San Blas
Jeff, Kathryn and the boys on a palm tree root ball that has been consumed by the ever encroaching Gulf of Mexico on Cape San Blas. The pilings you see in out in the gulf are what remains of an old lighthouse complex that was long ago destroyed by the relentless changes that shape this spit of land.
Cape San Blas
More evidence of the ever changing shoreline along the Cape San Blas Peninsula.
Shelling on Cape San Blas, Florida
Shelling is a fun activity on Cape San Blas near St. Josephs State Park.
Rain squall as seen from Cape San Blas
While this is not a sunset the sun is certainly coloring the afternoon sky behind this rain squall over the Gulf of Mexico. We took this picture while shelling along the Cape San Blas Peninsula near the entrance to the State Park which is at the end of the road.
Cape San Blas
This is another picture of that afternoon rain squall over the gulf used as a background for the more colorful sea shell on the beach.
It is a tough life, but someone has to document it. VBG
