We are looking at benches formed long ago by the Snake River. Joyce took this picture from Schwabacher Landing looking up toward where the north south road through Grand Teton National Park is located. These benches were created long ago when much more water was flowing in the Snake River. I suspect that they were created when the glaciers melted.

The Snake River runs between where we are at Schwabacher Landing and the base of the Teton Mountain Range. The water you see in this picture is in an oxbow off the Snake River. Water from the Snake River still flows through the oxbow but it is a very slow current with the majority of the Snake River flow staying in the main channel.

This is another view of the sage brush flats area where the Snake River once flowed. The level "bench" areas you see in the distance were created long ago when the Snake River was much larger.

Beaver Pond reflecting the Teton Range is one of the most photographed spots in Grand Teton National Park. If the picture is taken in the morning when sunlight is behind the photographer light will reflect off the Teton Range into the mirror surface of Beaver Pond. As you can see it is mid-afternoon and the sun is at the wrong angel.

I am fascinated by the brilliant color of this fungus we saw on some of the Engelmann Spruce trees at Schwabacher Landing.

Showy Fleabane were blooming in many places along the trail at Schwabacher Landing leading to Beaver Pond. Their name is really appropriate since their delicate petals are a light purple.....which does not show in the bright sunlight.

These two female canoers rented this canoe at Dornan's and transported it to Schwabacher Landing on the top of their automobile. They unloaded the canoe and put it in the water here at Schwabacher Landing and headed off upstream. They will stay out of the main flow of the Snake River while exploring some interesting wildlife habitat.
