Architecturally and historically The Red Doors is one of the Key West waterfronts most picturesque Landmarks. Constructed in late 1868 as a real estate speculation by the Pinder and Curry families of Key West. It has been home to a cigar, factory, a ships chanlery, a grocery and hardware store during the great depression serving both the neighborhood and commercial fishermen.

In the early 1950's when shrimping became of real economic importance to Key West The Doors became a chimeras bar and was noted as one of the toughest bars on the Gulf Coast. The gradual decline of the shrimp industry in Key West, due to depletion of fishing grounds and inadequate conservation measures and growing foreign competition lead to the closing of the bar in July 1972.

The Red Doors has been located in Old Town Key West since late 1868. It is located at 800 Caroline Street and just across the street from B.O's Fish Wagon. If you are traveling into Key West on The Key West Express you will pass The Red Doors as you make you way to Duval Street. Do take a few minutes to read about this fine building's history.

Joyce took this picture of The Red Doors Dress Shoppe in Key West from across Caroline Street at B.O.'s Fish Wagon the locals place to enjoy lunch & libations.

One can easily see why the beautiful facade of The Red Doors is considered one of the most picturesque landmarks in Key West. It certainly adds great beauty to Old Town and most tourist will stop to take a picture of this historical building and read about it's history..

This is a close up view of one of the windows of The Red Doors.

As you can see the building now houses an upscale dress shop in Old Town Key West.

I believe it is also home to The Red Doors Art Gallery.
