Moyie River Canyon in Northern Idaho
July 1, 2007.
We are staying in Hi
De Ho RV Park, in Sandpoint/Ponderay,
Idaho $32.40 gravel interior roads, FHU including cable and
wifi. This is an OK RV Park.
We drove to Moyie Springs, Idaho
to visit Moyie Canyon, the Moyie
Canyon Bridge, Moyie Falls and the Moyie Dam and Power Station.
The Moyie River flows south out of Canada
and in this location is flanked by narrow and steep rocky slopes.
Powerhouses at the dam are owned and operated by the city of Bonners
Ferry for use by the city and its citizens.
Moyie River Canyon Bridge near Bonner's
Ferry in northern Idaho
This is the bridge that spans the Moyie
River Canyon on US 2 near Moyie Springs, Idaho.
Constructed in 1964, the 1223 ft. long steel truss bridge spans the
Moyie River Canyon at a height of 464 feet. It is the second highest
bridge in Idaho, exceeded
only by the 476 foot high Perinne
Memorial Bridge across the Snake River near Twin Falls ----
we took pictures of that bridge earlier in this trip.
The 100 mile long Moyie River has its headwaters in British
Columbia and flows to the Pacific Ocean by way of the Kootenai
and Columbia
Rivers.

This picture of Moyie Dam was taken from a viewpoint and rest area
on the eastern side of the Moyie
River Canyon Bridge.
Conifer cone
Joyce took this picture of a "cute" cone. Neither of us
have any idea what species of conifer this cone belongs to. We would
love to know if anyone cares to enlighten us.
What was so neat is we were standing on the viewing platform at the
Moyie
River Canyon Bridge and the top of this conifer was there
in front of us. We were in the canopy if you will.
Moyie River Canyon Bridge
This picture of the Moyie
River Canyon Bridge was taken from near the Moyie Dam. That
is one very impressive piece of engineering.
Moyie Falls near the Moyie River Canyon Bridge
Below the dam water is falling over an impressive set of rocks. This
is Moyie Falls but it is very hard to see. It is located just a short
distance from Moyie
River Canyon Bridge.
On the road to the Dam and view of the Powerhouse we came across
evidence of the terrible
storm we experienced on Lake Coeur d'Alene the other night.
Debris like this has been visible in many places today.
More debris
from the storm we experienced while on the Cruise
Boat Osprey on Coeur
d'Alene Lake.
Until next time remember how good life is.
