Camping ClubHeadwaters of the mighty
Columbia River
We
have moved north of the Kootenay
River and are entering the Columbia River drainage. We are near the headwaters
of the Columbia River. Shortly this marsh area will become a beautiful lake.
Columbia Lake headwaters
of the Columbia River
That
is Columbia Lake in the center of the picture with a dark green grain field in
the center and a mowed hay field on the right side.
While I
included this picture grain and hay operations are few and far between around
here.
Columbia
Lake is the headwaters of the mighty Columbia River.
Columbia Lake
The
array of colors seen in Columbia Lake are the result of glacial silt in the water.
However,
according to a kiosk at the overlook, Columbia Lake is spring fed yet the same
kiosk says the milky colors in the lake are the result of glacial silt in the
water. Well, is it spring fed or glacial melt?
In
any event this lake is where the 4th largest, by volume, river system on the continent
begins its journey to the sea.
Until next time
remember how good life is.
