Swamp Maple

Joyce and I were camping in Manatee Springs State Park near Chiefland, Florida in February. The campground was really nice especially the wildlife in the State Park. We tend to like to stay in PPA campgrounds (Pass Port America Campgrounds) but today we are enjoying Manatee Springs State Park and staying in the campground there.

These swamp maple seeds have so much color they are easily mistaken for flowers but a close examination will reveal that they are actually brightly colored seeds.

Joyce spent some quality time capturing the spectacular red seeds of the swamp maple while we were visiting Manatee Springs in Manatee Springs State Park near Chiefland, Florida.

Swamp maple trees are brilliant red this time of year. When this red is juxtaposed against gray Spanish moss the visual effect is stunning.

These red seeds will, over time, dry and turn brown then float away in the wind.

Joyce did a good job of capturing the visual beauty of these swamp maple seeds literally mixed with Spanish moss in Manatee Springs State Park.

Some might think the red on swamp maples is new leaves or flowers. As you can see the red is seeds ready to float away on the slightest breeze as soon as they mature and dry.

We have to give Joyce credit for capturing the stunning color in these swamp maple seeds in Manatee Springs State Park.
