Manatee Springs
Cypress knees in the spring run from Manatee Springs
Cypress knees come in all shapes and sizes. These are just some of the ones in Manatee Springs State Park. In the picture to the right normal cypress knees are in the water but do not overlook the huge light colored knee that stands over 6-feet tall. You are probably still missing that cypress knee because it looks like a trunk. The bottom of that cypress knee is in the lower right corner of the picture while the top of this knee is in the extreme top center of the picture. Now, slowly follow that knee from the ground up until you see the top. Folks, that is one awsome knee. Kinda like the "Shaq" of cypress knees, if you get my drift.
Cypress knees in sweet light at the end of a perfect day
The light shining on these knees is what made them so unique.
Swamp trees reflecting in the shallow water of the flood plain around the Suwanee River
Reflections from the setting sun made these "swamp trees" (cypress, swamp maple, tupelo and gum) draped in Spanish moss made Joyce's pictures in Manatee Springs State Park interesting.
Manatee Springs confluence with the historic Suwanee River in Manatee Springs State Park
Joyce took this picture to show the spring run as it empties into the Suwanee River. That is the Suwanee River on the left side of this picture. The spring run from Manatee Spring it the water in front of us.

River birch and reflection in the "spring run" from Manatee Springs
Joyce captured this lone river birch tree and its unique reflection in the "spring run" that funnels water from Manatee Springs a few hundred yards to the Suwanee River. Can you tell the actual river birch tree from the reflection? Good job Joyce!
Swamp maple seeds in Manatee Springs State Park
Swamp maple trees are brilliant red this time of year. When the red seeds are juxtaposed against gray Spanish moss the visual effect is stunning.
Stump of an ancient cypress exposed in the shallow water of the Suwanee River flood plain
Joyce thought this stump of an ancient cypress tree and the reflection would make an interesting picture.
Deer inspecting us at our campsite in Manatee Springs State Park
Deer were wandering around Manatee Springs State Park in the late afternoon. We were camped in the campground at Manatee Springs State Park and the wildlife made the stay so enjoyable. Joyce and I like to stay in PPA (PassPort America) Campgrounds but decided to stay in the State Park since we were going to visit the State Park anyway. It was a good choice.
