Deer feeding in parking lot at Manatee Springs in Manatee Springs State Park

Deer feeding in parking lot at Manatee Springs in Manatee Springs State Park

These deer were wandering around Manatee Springs State Park in the late afternoon. This is the most deer we have seen anywhere in Florida. Seeing this many deer in the Hill Country of Texas is normal, but not Florida. We normally stay in PPA Campgrounds (Passport America) Campgrounds but on this occasion decided to stay in the campground at Manatee Springs State Park.

The parking lot you see in the background is the parking lot visitors use when visiting Manatee Springs. As you can see it is getting to be early evening and most visitors have left for the day leaving only the individuals staying in the campground which would include us.

Cypress knees come in all shapes and sizes. These are just some of the Cypress knees on display in the swamp surrounding Manatee Springs. In this picture cypress knees are in the water. Joyce & I were admiring this huge light colored knee that stands over 6-feet tall, to actually see the top of this knee you have to look in the extreme top center of the picture.

The knee to the right is almost a perfect cone.

Joyce captured tis tranquil picture of cypress trees lining the spring run from Manatee Springs to the Suwanee River in Manatee Springs State Park.

Manatee Spring is located several hundred yards from the Suwannee River that is seen on the extreme left side of this picture. The "spring run" is the fast flowing connector between the spring and the river.

Joyce has captured cypress trees and swamp maples across the spring run in Manatee Springs State Park.

Manatee Spring is located several hundred yards from the Suwannee River and a swift flowing "spring run" transports spring water from the springs to the Suwanee River.
