Tongue River Canyon Scenic DriveTongue River flowing through Tongue River Canyon near Dayton, Wyoming
The Tongue River Canyon on the eastern side of Wyoming's Big Horn Mountains is one of those "hidden gems". Why the state of Wyoming does not advertise and promote this scenic drive is beyond me. We found out about this awesome canyon through some professional photographs we saw online. I did some digging when the pictures were identified as being in the Tongue River Canyon. I was able to find the Tongue River on a map, then finally some sketchy information on Google. It must be a secret that Wyoming only wants locals to know about. We stayed in an Peter "D's" RV-Park in Sheridan while enjoying this Tongue River Canyon Scenic Drive. You can do some Googling to find more information about the canyon but the information will be scarce. You enter the canyon from US-14 in Dayton, Wyoming. Take CR (County Road)-92 north off US-14. Follow CR-92 to the end. That is the road that will take you into the canyon where these pictures were taken. CR-92 follows the north side of the Tongue River. There is another road in Dayton named the Tongue River Road. It may be somewhat scenic but it does not take you into the canyon where these pictures were taken. The Tongue River Road was along the south side of the river. Joyce checking out Tongue River bridge in Tongue River Canyon near Dayton, Wyoming
That is the love of my life checking out this bridge over the Tongue River. I persuaded her to walk over this bridge for a picture opportunity. When the picture taking was done I told her that I sent her out on the bridge to see if it would hold our Saturn. She was not amused in the least bit, and as you might suspect, I spent the remainder of the day in the dog house.
