The MSC Poesia is a 2,550-passenger cruise ship cruising the Caribbean during the winter of 2012 out of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

You may have read about the MSC Poesia in January of 2012, which was last month, while heading into Port Lucaya at Freeport, Bahamas, MSC Poesia ran aground on top of a reef.. The grounding did not stop the beach-goers as tender boats were able to ferry passengers from the grounding spot to the shores of Port Lucaya. According to a local Captain in the port, they just waited for the tide to get high and she was pulled off with 4 tugs with no problem. The MSC Poesia continued on her journey at 19.5 knots to little Salvador. So we can assume minimal damage, if any (with that speed)! The statement from MSC Cruises read as follows: "In navigating the harbor off Port Lucaya in the Grand Bahamas, MSC Poesia ran aground at 6:50 a.m. Saturday morning. The ship and its guests were always completely safe and all onboard equipment and services continued to operate normally including all previously scheduled tender service and shore excursions". All the ports that I am familiar with around world use pilots to guide the ship into port. Normally, whenever a ship enters into the waters of each port, a local pilot will board the ship at sea to bring it into port. I don't know what happened this time but something went terribly wrong. The MSC Poesia arrived this morning from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Key West was the first stop on this 7-night Caribbean Cruise. From here the MSC Poesia is headed to Cozumel, Mexico, Isla De Roatan, Honduras, Montego Bay, Jamaica before arriving back in Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
