Rockefeller Preserve Walking Trail

Joyce and I did not walk the entire walking trail system in Rockerfeller Preserve but we had a great time on the part that we did walk. The Rockefeller Preserve is a place we will visit time and time again when in Grand Teton National Park.

These nice rest stops are provided in strategic viewing areas along the walking trail in Rockerfeller Preserve. Some provide views of the majestic Teton Range while others are situated along a white water creek or waterfall. Still others are situated to make you think about what the creator wanted you to see or hear in this particular spot.

I was attracted to this boulder because of the obvious dike running through it. A dike occurs deep within the earth when molten magma from the earth's core pushes toward the surface. Cracks in the overlying rock form and the liquid magma rushes in to fill the crack.

That is what you are looking at there. The liquid magma filled that crack in the rock deep within the earth then cooled and created this dike.

The Tetons received a lot of snow this winter. As a result the wildflower bloom has been spectacular in Grand Teton National Park and we are enjoying each and every one of them on our walk along the Rockerfeller Preserve's walking trail.

This viewing area on the Rockerfeller Preserve's walking trail has been placed so you can soak in the sights and sounds of that white water creek as it rushes downhill to meet the Snake River less than a mile away. Just a few short hours ago the water in this creek was snow in higher elevations of the Teton Range.

We have seen a lot of longleaf phlox in Grand Teton National Park this year. The wet winter has really made them bloom.

I grew up with Buckwheat being one of the little Rascals. Now I find out that buckwheat is a flower. I guess you never get too old to learn something new. VBG

Scarlet Gilia has been in prolific bloom in many areas of Grand Teton National Park and along the walking trail in Rockefeller Preserve Joyce spots this bunch.
