Sunshine Skyway Bridge, FloridaWe are staying at Lake Manatee State Park about 12-miles east of Bradenton on SR-64. Lake Manatee SP has paved interior roads with packed sand sites with electricity & water & central dump site. January 20 and 21 2009. This travel log begins on our way south as we approach the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in our motorhome. For those of you not familiar with the Sunshine Skyway Bridge it the huge bridge that spans Tampa Bay -- from St Petersburg on the north to Bradenton on the south side. Cargo ships like freighters and tankers sail under this bridge.

Joyce took this picture of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge approach through the front window of our motorhome as we passed through St Petersburg. Bradenton is going to be on the south side of the bridge. At this point the causeway is headed across Tampa Bay. Note the center span on this bridge ----- it is located on the horizon about 1/4th of the way from the left side. This picture was taken on the Sunshine Skyway Bridge as we head south toward Bradenton. It will be hard for you to visualize how high the Sunshine Skyway Bridge is and what those massive spires (there are two spires) are for from this perspective. I hope to change that in the following pictures.
