Washington's Face Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South DakotaJuly 6 through 13, 2009 Washington's Face on Mount Rushmore The most famous attraction in the Black Hills of South Dakota has to be Mount Rushmore. We are camped near Custer State Park and the town of Custer in the southern part of the Black Hills at Custer's Gulch RV-Park. It is an OK commercial campground just like dozens of others in this area. Mount Rushmore Mount Rushmore is the first thing most people think about when someone mentions the Black Hills. It is also why most people find their way to the Black Hills. We have visited here several times and Mount Rushmore has become one of those "been there-done that" type of things. Besides, you can view Mount Rushmore from about every angle imaginable without entering the facility.

Just to give you an idea this is a view of Mount Rushmore as we emerge from one of the tunnels on the Iron Mountain Scenic Drive. These tunnels were constructed to frame Mount Rushmore then the road was cut to connect the tunnels. It really is spectacular.

I think this picture was taken from the highway that takes you to Mount Rushmore from Keystone. There is a pull out where you can take view the monument and take pictures.
Again Washington's face stands out on Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota
I suspect this picture was taken from one of the pullouts on Iron Mountain Road since it is framed by pine trees and is pretty much a frontal view of the monument rather than a side view.
