Dry Camping at Miccosukee Indian Casino

This travellog is provided to give RV'ers information on where they may like to stay for a day or so when visiting extreme South Florida in the Winter.

We sometimes like to dry camp at the Miccosukee Indian Casino located on US-44 (Tamiami Trail) and SR-997 also known as (SW 177th Ave and also Krome Ave.) The ONLY entrance to the Casino is off SR-997 about 1,000 yards north of the intersection of US-44. There is plenty of room for RV's just follow the signs ------ they lead to the end of the lot furthest away from casino which is where RV'ers want to be (out where it is quiet).

We were there two nights on this trip while we spent our days either in the Everglades (Shark Valley in Everglades National Park), visiting Robert is Here Fruit Stand, or driving around the agricultural areas west of Florida City & Homestead.

There is no cost to park in the Casino Parking lot.

From the Miccosukee Indian Casino we like to explore the agricultural & nursery areas west of Florida City. The landscape is covered with plant nurseries, exotic orchards and vegetable farms. Hundreds upon hundreds of acres are devoted to exotic palm nurseries. It is exciting to see hundreds of acres of beautiful palms from around the world. Other nurseries specialize in tropical plants. We enjoyed walking around in them and even purchased some plants to take with us back to Pensacola. We marveled at banana plantations, mango orchards, papaya orchards, guava orchards and a variety of vegetable fields. Tomatoes, squash, bell peppers, green beans and sweet corn were in abundance. Some other row crops were in evidence that we could not identify. The rich black soil is obviously good farm land. However, Miami is sprawling into this productive farming area. That is such a shame.

Commercial Papaya grove between the Miccosukee Indian Casino and Homestead, Florida

This is what a commercial papaya grove looks like. We saw a number of these covering 5 to 10 acres each in the farmland on the edge of the everglades both west and north of Homestead, Florida. These commercial Papaya groves are also common along Krome Avenue south of the Miccosukee Indian Casino.

Sunset over the Everglades near the Miccosukee Indian Casino in south Florida

This was one of those odd sunsets. I say odd because the sun wasn't officially setting when this picture was taken. As you can see the sun is still fairly high in the afternoon sky yet hiding behind several horizontal layers of dark clouds. Rays of sun were shining through holes in the layers of dark clouds. The picture did not come close to capturing the stunning shafts of light emanating from those holes in the cloud layers. By the way we are on the eastern edge of Everglades National Park about 10-miles west of Homestead.

Again this picture does not capture the beauty of those shafts of light striking through holes in the horizontal layers of dark clouds. And like the above picture this one is overlooking Everglades National Park as seen from the eastern edge a few miles west of Homestead, Florida and near the Miccosukee Indian Casino in south Florida..

As you can see there is a lot of things you can see and do when dry camping at the Miccosukee Indian Casino. Of course you can enjoy the casino for breakfast, lunch and dinner if you like. And do not forget that good entertainment is available on the weekend.
