Golden, New Mexico mines & old cabins

May 13, 2007.

We are "camped" at Rocky Mountain RV and Marine on east Central Avenue in Albuquerque. We are there moving our belongings from our old Trek motorhome to our new (to us) Winnebago Adventurer Motorhome.

Frank & Sandy invited us to return to their house for a Mother's Day get together.

Once you have been to one of Frank & Sandy's feeds you aren't going to miss a chance to indulge your taste buds. This is Sunday afternoon and we were headed back up the Turquoise Trail toward Madrid and Cerrillos.

This trip we paid better attention to our surroundings as we passed through the small community of Golden. We saw theses structures the other day but did not put two and two together until today. Golden was the site of a short-lived gold rush in 1879. It was hard to process gold without water and that is one thing this area doesn't have. Even so silver-lead ores were mined for a time, some was even sent to England for smelting. This is what remains of that 1879 gold rush. Several old miners' cabins and the entrance to an underground mine.
