Coeur d'Alene Lake
Coeur d'Alene Lake
June 28, 29 and 30, 2007.
We are staying in Coeur d'Alene at Blackwell
Island RV Resort $30 for paved interior roads, FHU including
cable and wifi. This is a top notch RV park that even allows you to
wash your RV on site. Now that is something you do not see very often.
Coeur d'Alene Lake
Idaho has provided this kiosk to inform us how Coeur
d'Alene lake was formed. From where we have been we have not
been able to see the glacial moraine. This kiosk says the moraine
dammed the rivers and forced water to flow west into what is now the
Spokane River. That is all well and good but Rathdrum is 15-miles
northwest of Coeur d'Alene
and we have not made plans to venture out that way.
We decided to explore along the east side of Coeur
d'Alene lake along SR 97 that is promoted as a scenic drive.
Scenic it is.
To access SR 97 we had to head east on I-90 about 15-miles to exit
22. From there we headed south on SR 97 until its junction with SR
3 that would take us north and back to I 90.
From this angle we can see I-90 sweeping across the northern arm
of this lake.
Pullouts along the way provide stunning views of Coeur
d'Alene Lake.
The view is different around each turn.
From this spot in the road we were able to see an active osprey nest.
Across the lake is a large marina and golf resort located less than
a mile east of downtown Coeur
d'Alene.
Beautiful homes line the lake. Mostly what we can see from the road
are the roofs of these lake front houses.
A few locations on the south east side of the lake actually have
flat ground where a house can be constructed near the water.
This home had several acres of beautifully landscaped lawn.
At this pullout we are only able to see the lake through this "window".
Some shallow coves provided good shelter for lily pads like these
that are in full bloom.
This cove was providing a marsh complete with lush grass.
We are nearing the small town of Harrison when Joyce took this picture
of a sailboat on Coeur
d'Alene lake.
Until next time remember how good life is.
