Giant White Bird of Paradise
Giant White Bird of Paradise plants are a showy plant
Multiple flowers emerge from a dark blue bract, white sepals and bluish-purple "tongue".
The "bird" is fairly large and is typically very colorful with a purple bract the white sepals and blue petals. Flowers are sometimes followed by triangular seed capsules although I have never seen these seeds.

As you can see the banana like leaves are 6 to 8' long. The leaves are dark green and arranged in fans atop the trunks. Plants form clumps of several variably-sized trunks that may grow to 18' in width. The group of flowers are composed of a dark blue bract, white sepals and bluish-purple "tongue". The entire "bird" can be as large as 7" high by 18" long and typically emerges just above the point where the leaf fan emerges from the trunk. Flowers are followed by triangular seed capsules that we have never seen.

A crown of banana-like leaves atop a palm tree trunk, that is how to describe a giant white bird of paradise plant. The giant white bird of paradise plants have huge, uniquely beautiful flowers. They are related to the bird of paradise flower, this close cousin is a much larger plant forming huge clumps of stems to 30 feet in comparison to the normal bird of paradise's 3 to 4 feet height.

The "White Bird" is native to South Africa. It is used outdoors in both Florida and California as a landscape plant, where it can reach a height of 20 or more feet. The flowers can reach a size of 10-12 inches, but plants need some maturity before flowering.

White Bird of Paradise flowers emerge at the point where the leaf fan protrudes from the trunk. The flowers are large with a light blue tongue andemerge from a purplish bract.

Some people report that the giant white bird of paradise is a bird magnet. Spot-breasted oriole, red-bellied woodpecker, palm warbler and others are attracted to the flowers. If you live in an area where you can plant this outside; once it has blossomed you will be amazed at how many birds it attracts.
