Geiger Key Beach near Key WestDeserted Geiger Key Beach near Key West
A big storm system just moved through the area and we had strong southerly winds for several days. The strong south wind blew in a large raft of seaweed that is now piled up on Geiger Key Beach. High tide and a north wind will carry this sea weed back to sea.
Deserted Geiger Key Beach near Key West
We were shocked at the amount of sea weed that the recent storm pushed ashore along this Geiger Key Beach. Geiger Key Beach near Key West
Geiger Key beach reminds me of what a tropical paradise would look like. Geiger Key Beach is off CR-941 on Big Coppit Key. Big Coppit Key is around 15-miles northeast of Key West on US-1. Turn south on CR-941 and follow it to the end. Actually CR-941 continues but it appears the US Navy has constructed a barrier across the road to prevent vehicles from entering what appears to be Navy property. Locals tell me that they park at the barrier then take their beach gear and walk along the road to their favorite beach. Joyce and I just drove to where the barrier was across CR-941 and turned around.

Morning Glory blooming on Geiger Key Beach near Key West
Geiger Key Beach is more like a wild deserted island retreat that just happens to have a road (CR-941) leading to it.
Morning Glory blooming on Geiger Key Beach near Key West
I think this is a wild morning glory but I am not sure. Keep in mind that we saw it in the Florida Keys and it certainly may be a tropical vine that we are not familiar with. If, by chance, it is not a morning glory please let us know what it is and I will make the correction. Just put "info" in the place of "FAKE" in this address: FAKE@travellogs.us
